So as you know, I've decided to take up running. I have taken some serious first steps. Yesterday, I bought a new pair of shoes. The good news is that Nathan ran all through High School, so I was prepared for the sticker shock. And he went along to help me sort through the plethora of choices. Who knew that individual shoes had names?Saucony makes a shoe named Triumph. Sounds like a winner! In high school, I wanted a Triumph. A Triumph TR7. It was a sweet 2 seater British sports car that was shaped like a doorstop. I saw one for the first time at an auto auction with my uncle in Nashville, TN. Very sleek. I never got to hear it run. They pulled it into the auction on a rope. But I bet it would have sounded cool.

Mizuno makes a shoe called the Wave. Seemed like a nice, friendly shoe.

The hot seller for Adidas is the SuperNova. Wow! They also have a shoe - very fitting for my line of work - called Salvation.
There was a shoe called Adrenaline. One called Addiction. Another called The Beast. Then there was Racer, Defyance, Glycerine and Infiniti. (I think I watched all those guys a few years back on All-Star Wrestling.)
The little girl at the sports store was no help. One pair of running shoes I was looking at had what seemed to be a little pocket stitched into the side. I asked her what the little pocket was for. She said it was to carry spare change so I could call my wife to come get me if I ran too far. Ha! Look who put on their smarty-pants today! I bought my shoes across the mall at another store.
Well, I decided on the Asics Kayano. Nathan wore them all through High School - put thousands of miles on them - set a couple of meet records with his relay team and won a State Championship in Cross Country. I'll be happy if I just don't get shin splints.
So I'm all set. Day 1. Just looking at myself in the mirror in my running shorts and Asics Kayanos I feel better already.
